UFO-like bright lights leave eyewitness amazed.

ballsWho doesn’t love an early summer thunderstorm? Hell, add unidentified aerial phenomenon into the tempest and it’s a recipe for awesome footage. Each time lightning strikes, brilliant balls are illuminated in the vicinity of the bolt. The proposition of ball lightning is understandable, but this anomaly usually occurs close to the ground.

Last January, some eggheads at the Northwest Normal University in Lanzhou, China made some weird findings regarding the formation of ball lightning under controlled conditions. They observed material on the ground becoming plasma after a strike, moving 15 meters before vanishing.

spriteIt’s always fun to ponder the possibilities behind these events. Could those be alien craft, briefly lit by the flash? Baby sprites and jets frolicking amidst the storm? The possibilites are endless. Dig the video for yourself.

Interesting!! I have to agree with what he said on the video. Ball lightning moves (which is why people have reported it crashing through windows in the past), and these objects honestly look almost stationary as if they’re illuminated by the lightning flash. But as far as what they are… nope, totally clueless here!

Possibly birds in flight lit up by the lightning as it strobes making them appear stationary?

It looks like it may just be lightning bolts that are partially obscured by the clouds so we just see these small balls peeking through. But I’m not entirely convinced of my own explanation:(

Otherwise I wouldn’t dismiss ball lightning. It is still a big ? in science.
