Are dinosaurs alive and well in the forests of Brazil? No one would blame for you saying “no”, but a new image has cropped up online which just might change your mind.
The photo, sent in by an unnamed source, appears to show one of the extinct creatures in flight over a swamp. The source claims to have snapped the image with a disposable camera in 2005, and though he never says that the creature in the photo is a dinosaur, it seems pretty clear that this isn’t a stork.
Is the image genuine? Digitally altered? Just a trick of the eye? It’s hard to know without more details, but this wouldn’t be the first time that pterodactyls have been sighted long after their extinction, making this image all the more intriguing.
Here’s the full email as posted to the Mulder’s World Facebook page:
“My parents took these photos 2005, while on vacation in Brazil. They were taken in disposable camera. Saw this giant bird fly for minutes, thinking that, at the beginning it was stork. My dad said that he would be 20 feet from the wings. I have some ideas of possibility. Curiosity, if you have seen or heard in stuff something similar?”
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that English isn’t their first language. So, any thoughts on the photo? Let’s hear ’em.
Bad news, true believers – dinosaurs aren’t flying around Brazil. This one isn’t, at least. Our friend Jay from Bizarre Zoology pointed out that this image is most likely an illustration by Joe Tucciarone. I overlaid the illustration on top of the mystery image and whadda ya know, it’s pretty much a perfect match.
Jay also insisted I tell everyone that pterodactyls are not dinosaurs, but come on, Jay, they were in Jurassic Park 3.
Do you still believe small groups of dinosaurs are living comfortably in seclusion? Or are all dinosaur sightings hoaxes? Share your thoughts with us on Facebook, tweet us @WhoForted, or leave a comment below.
