Rael Against the Machine: UFO Cult Leader Gains Political Asylum

Negar Azizmoradi, leader of the Iranian branch of the Int. Raelian Movement

Negar Azizmoradi, leader of the Iranian branch of the International Raelian Movement, has been granted asylum status in the United States after facing persecuting in her home country.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Raelian Church, they’re the pro-orgy UFO cult started by a French race car driver who believes Jesus was a prophet contacted by the extraterrestrial race that seeded human on life on Earth. Nothing weird, or anything. There’s also that whole embarrassing incident when they claimed to have created the first human clone back in 2002 (they didn’t).

Azimoradi’s family received word that she was to be arrested after publicly stating her Raelian beliefs, an arrest that would most likely have amounted to a death sentence in Iran.

Brigitte Boisellier, a spokesperson for the IRM, told news agencies that Azizmoradi fled to Turkey, only to be thrown into jail, destined for deportation. But thanks to the efforts of Raelians around the globe, and support from the BBC and other media, enough pressure was placed on the Turkish government to send her to the US instead.

“After two years of paperwork and offers by Raelians in many countries to host this brave young woman in her quest for asylum, she will finally arrive in Las Vegas at 3 p.m. today,” Boisellier said. “For the first time, she will be able to state her beliefs openly and live her Raelian views in freedom and harmony.”

Let’s hope she comes in peace.
