Did the Mars Rover Capture a UFO?

It was a clear and sunny day in Gale Crater. Almost shirtsleeves weather, being a balmy 15 degrees fahrenheit, as the plucky Curiosity continued its journey across Mars in the name of science. In Curiosity’s travels many odd items have been seen. A ‘flower, a rat, and a gorilla head. Joining this bizarre martian menagerie is an unidentified flying object.

Preposterous! After all UFOs come from Mars. If you want to nitpick, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is a genuine UFO to the martian natives. But are our robots truly alone up there? A YouTuber who goes by liemee watcher was browsing the rover’s archives and found this gem. Bonus, it’s just 53 seconds! Trust me, you’ve got 53 seconds.

If you don’t believe liemee watcher, check the raw image for yourself. Get crazy like CSI with the zooming and enhancing, because here is something that belongs in Billy Meier’s family album.

Welcome back, Who Forted! And what a story to come back on. I’ve always loved the classic UFO disk design – it’s so retro and atomic age and full of chintz, rather than the ugly triangle-shaped monstrosities everybody’s seeing around. What can I say, I’m sentimental at heart.

Those pics are from the rover Hazard navigation cameras. There are two cameras that take pictures in matched pairs, at the exact same time. They cover roughly the same area, and allow for stereo picture analysis. We can use this to measure how far away objects are.

So let’s look at the other camera.

Sorry, nothing is there, so it must be dust or noise

    NO UFOs on Mars

Sorry, those are whooping cranes. Da-da has the same ones fly around in circles near his house every year. Google, “whooping cranes.” They’re quite large, white with black-tipped wings. Da-da’s unsure if they can travel faster-than-light, but he has his doubts.
