Frightening Phantoms Captured on Film: Ten of the World’s Most Convincing Ghost Photos

convincingghostfeaturedimage

Hundreds of alleged ghost photos circulate around the internet every week. Most of the images that end up on our news desk can be chalked up to phony ghost apps, lens flairs, or plain old dust, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some spine-chillingly compelling ghost photos floating around out there. In fact, there’s probably a lot more than you might think. Some of them date back to the turn of the century, and some were taken last year, but either way, these are some of the most convincing ghost photos of all time.

The Addict’s Demon Dog

At the time that this photo was taken, Joe Martinez was in the grips of a drug addiction, but it was this image snapped during his in-law’s wedding anniversary that changed Joe’s life forever. Lurking over his shoulder is what Joe described as his “addiction’s demon” in physical form. For obvious reasons, the photograph horrified him, and Joe claimed to realize then that he had spent the past few years “walking with Satan”. From that day forward, he cleaned up and changed is life. He never saw the “demon dog” again.

The Madonna of Bachelor’s Grove

Bachelor’s Grove is known as being one of the most haunted cemeteries in the world, prone to some pretty incredible tales of mysterious phenomena, but it’s most well known for “The Madonna” ghost photo.

Captured during a paranormal investigation on August 10, 1991 by Ghost Research Society, this infamous image might be one of the most famous photos of a spirit ever committed to film. After getting her photos developed, GRS member Mari Huff was shocked to discover she had captured the image of a sad-looking woman sitting all alone on a tombstone. Some researchers believe the lonely phantom was mourning the loss of her child.

“Say Cheese” Ghost

This photo of two young ladies exploring Manilla has been creeping everyone out since 2000. Not much is known about the photo, aside from the fact that it was captured on a cellphone, and the ghostly guest who decided to join women for their photo wasn’t present when the shutter clicked.

Freddy Jackson Ghost

This photo, taken in 1919, shows a World War I squadron.. both living and dead. The men in the photograph believed that the ghostly face that appears in the back row is that of Freddy Jackson, an air mechanic who died in a freak accident involving a wayward airplane propeller. Jackson’s funeral occurred on day the photo was taken, and it seems as if he was going to make an appearance no matter what.

The Ghost of Grandpa

The man hovering above the woman in the photo is believed to have been her husband.. who had died almost 13 years before it was taken. Astonishingly, the strange anomaly in this photo went unnoticed until 2000, when a family member happened to notice the strange man standing in the background.

Worsted Church’s White Lady Ghost

This famous photo was taken by Diane and Peter Berthelot in 1975, while on vacation to Norfolk UK. While visiting a church, Peter took a photo of his wife sitting and praying, but it wouldn’t be until weeks later, when the photos were developed, that the couple noticed the bright white figure sitting in the pew behind Diane, which both had remembered was empty at the time.

The Covent Garden Piazza Ghost

FloadtingLadyGhost

Photographed in 1989, the Covent Garden Ghost was captured on film by Mr. and Mrs Webb who had taken their two kids to the piazza for a day of adventure. Little did they know they’d capture one of the most famous ghost photos of all time. The mysterious legless woman in black has, to this day, never been identified.

Group Child Ghost

The only thing known about this image is that the group of ladies posing for the photo claim that there was only one child present when the picture was snapped, and judging by her reaction, she wasn’t happy about the ghostly girl who decided to photobomb them.

Chicago Window Ghosts

Posing for a picture in front of their new house, this family had no idea about who – or what – was peeking out of their front window. Often said to have been the previous homeowners, the “Chicago Window Ghosts” were, according to the neighbors, the spirits of the old lady who lived in the house before the current homeowners, and her little dog, who looks to be pictured right next to her.

Old Hag Ghost

One of the spookiest ghost photos of all time, and the most recent on this list, appears to show a hideously disfigured old woman covered in soiled shroud lurking around in the children’s section of a museum. The old hag’s arms are severely distorted and she appears to be standing inside a child-sized grocery cart, but that’s not even the weirdest part. The photographer has absolutely no memory of anything remotely resembling a terrifying old lady standing in the background of his photo at the time it was captured.
