With its unique approach to ghost hunting, immensely-likable leads, and some of the best supernatural evidence ever broadcast on television, Destination America’s Paranormal Lockdown quickly shot to the top of our favorite paranormal reality shows this year, but the six-episode series left us hungry for more. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long.

Earlier today, Paranormal Lockdown‘s stars, Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman, took to a live Facebook video stream to announce that Destination America has given the green-light to a second season of the hit ghost hunting series, and it sounds like it’s going to be even more thrilling than the first.

“Should we talk about some cool news?” Groff asked the viewers. “I’m really, really excited… Destination America has been awesome to us.. and we’re extremely excited to say that Paranormal Lockdown will be coming back, season two is coming. So look out for us in 2017. We’re researching new locations that are absolutely amazing.”

While no specific date has been announced for season two, Groff says that they’ve been taking their time to create brand new, state-of-the-art equipment for use on their search for proof of the paranormal.

“We’ve been engineering new devices. We’re going to have a whole arsenal of equipment this season. First season we were so focused on visual. We were new to the high definition, 6K camera that we we filmed on that could see in all dynamics of light, and we captured some amazing evidence at Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum – that weird creeper-thing – and now we’re ready to take the investigations to another level.”

In addition to a van-full of brand new gadgets, Groff, who created and executive produces the series, promises that the locations featured in Paranormal Lockdown’s second season will be as full of ghosts as they are history. In fact, some of the investigations already have him a little nervous.

“We have a whole arsenal of gear that we’re ready to use and just put ourselves back into 72 hours of confinement at haunted locations, some that have never been done before, some that are absolutely historic, some that have amazing history and crazy hauntings. I’m really thrilled, but a little nervous at some of them..”

But while the new lineup of spooky locales might have Groff anticipating some nerve-racking encounters with restless spirits, Weidman has some more practical concerns about her upcoming lockdowns.

“I’m obviously excited, but the thing that comes to my head is, ‘oh, I’ve gotta prepare myself for like no showers,'” Weidman laughed. “Have to prepare myself for like no sleep, and the sleep that I do get is in this horribly haunted place where ghosts can rip me out of my bed and bugs can bite me, and so I’m mentally preparing myself for the exhaustion.”

With a shoot that entails three nights of no creature comforts spent in some of the world’s most haunted, long-abandoned, and often spider-infested places, you might wonder why two people would put themselves through that kind of experience, but the duo have a pretty simple answer to that question: it’s all in search of answers.

“It’s a journey- it’s a quest for us, and we’re very, very passionate about the paranormal,” Groff said. “We don’t have all the answers and that’s what keeps pushing us. We want to find out what happens when you die, whats next.”

Before signing off, Nick and Katrina had one last message for the fans of Paranormal Lockdown:

“Thank you everyone for making season one of Paranormal Lockdown one of the highest [rated], hit series on Destination America,” Groff said. “Season two is because of you, it’s all the support we’ve gotten from you.”

While you wait for season two of Paranormal Lockdown to premiere, you can always investigate along with Nick Groff and special guests like Ghost Stalkers‘ John E.L. Tenney, Ghost Asylums‘ Chris Smith, and even yours truly on the Nick Groff Tour, which holds regular ghost hunting events in some of the most active paranormal hotspots around the country.

I’ve been speaking and presenting the Traveling Museum of the Paranormal & Occult at dozens of stops on the Nick Groff Tour over the last year, and in that time, I’ve been scratched by a ghost at the Ohio State Reformatory, felt the spirits in the gas chamber at Missouri State Penitentiary, and even heard the voices of disembodied entities speak at the infamous Bobby Mackey’s, so trust me when I say that paranormal investigations with Nick Groff get pretty intense.

If you want to chase some spirits with Groff, you’ve still got two chances left this year. On June 11th the tour rolls into Pennsylvania’s infamous Pennhurst Asylum before ending the year’s adventures on July 16th at Virginia’s haunted St. Albans Sanitarium.

Season two of Paranormal Lockdown is slated to premiere  in 2017. In the meantime, you can catch Nick Groff as he helps solve a community-wide paranormal emergency in Ghosts of Shepherdstown, a six-part event premiering on Destination America Sunday, June 12, at 10/9c. Stay tuned to Week in Weird for our coverage of the series and more news about Paranormal Lockdown‘s second season.
