Terrifying Reality: Watch the Top Five Best Pieces of Paranormal Evidence Ever Captured on Television

Ever since the debut of Scariest Places on Earth back in 2000, I’ve been a paranormal television junkie. There, I said it. If it’s a reality show with even the slightest connection to ghosts, Bigfoot, or UFOs, I can guarantee that I’ve watched it. Don’t get me wrong, I love chasing down the paranormal myself (I’ve spent the last two decades doing so), but I also really enjoy watching other investigators in action, especially when they’ve finally managed to track down evidence of something they’ve spent their lives seeking.

Thanks to the booming popularity of paranormal television, there’ve been countless shows with literally thousands of pieces of evidence captured in the last decade alone, but sometimes it’s a bit hard to separate what’s real and what’s just TV. Over the years there have been a handful of incredible television captures that have left viewers slack-jawed and scratching their heads, me included. Fortunately, I’ve found myself in the unique position to grill the stars of these shows on their encounters in person from time to time, and for the several pieces of evidence listed below, I’ve got no doubts on their authenticity.

Kick back, kill the lights, and get chills with this list of the five best pieces of paranormal evidence ever captured on television.

Paranormal Lockdown: “The Creeper”

If you love the paranormal and you haven’t been watching Paranormal Lockdown, you’re missing out big time. The Destination America series is hosted by Ghost Adventure’s Nick Groff and Paranormal State’s Katrina Weidman, and sees the duo spending 72 hours locked inside some of the most haunted places in America. Aside from the occasional appearance from their trusty cameraman Rob Saffi, there’s no crew, leaving them alone to commune with the spirits for three solid days.  It’s a fantastic, simple concept that works so well that they’ve captured what I think is one of the most compelling pieces of paranormal evidence in years: “The Creeper”.

Episode one of the series finds the trio locked down inside the notorious Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, an already scary place, but when their custom-made high-def cameras capture a bizarre, free-moving black mass making its way across an empty hallway, behind Nick and Katrina, there’s no denying that were in the presence of something unexplainable. Even creepier is that cameraman Rob watched the event in real-time, describing the frightening entity he was viewing on the camera before rolling back the tape for the proof.

Ghost Stalkers: “The Tall Man”

Destination America has clearly made a name for itself when it comes to creating some of the best paranormal content in recent memory. In fact, their criminally short-lived series Ghost Stalkers, which paired veteran investigator John E.L Tenney with fresh-faced paranormal virgin (and Fast and the Furious / Supernatural star) Chad Lindberg together for solo attempts at surviving violently-haunted locations, is the only television show to ever capture a genuine full-body apparition on camera. That’s a big deal.

Ghost Stalkers‘ third episode, filmed inside the Old Taylor Memorial Hospital in Hawkinsville, Georgia, takes a chilling turn when an apparition, nicknamed “The Tall Man”, is filmed making its way across an open doorway and up a flight of stairs. Parked in an RV outside the building with no way to communicate, John Tenney could only watch on as the figure made it’s way toward Chad Lindberg, who was investigating alone in the abandoned building. “The Tall Man” footage isn’t just the only full-body apparition ever captured on television, it’s one of TV’s most chilling pieces of paranormal evidence, period.

Ghost Hunters: “Amy & Adam (and the Ghostly Guest)”

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 2.04.07 PM

SyFy Channel’s Ghost Hunters was one of the first paranormal reality shows to really hit it big, and with over a decade of investigations in haunted locations all over the country, the cast has managed to collect quite a bit of impressive evidence that’s had no problem getting the internet buzzing with both high praise and conspiracy theory.

My favorite capture, though, comes courtesy of Amy Bruni and Adam Berry’s investigation of Waverly Hills Sanatorium. While the dynamic duo were investigating the nurses-ward, they began to hear some disembodied knocks in the distance, but it’s when the tapping starts to communicate intelligently that things get interesting. Time and time again, the strange knocking follows whatever requests the duo have without fail. Finally, when Adam asks for the sprit to knock after the count of “1… 2… 2 and a half… 3” and it does…

Ghost Adventures: “The Flying Brick”

Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures has always been a polarizing series thanks to its aggressive approach to paranormal investigation and the most over-the-top host on television, but there’s no doubt that the show has always excitedly embraced new investigation techniques and managed to capture some interesting footage for that very reason. Their best evidence though, has always been their earliest.

Easily one of the most re-watched and heavily-debated pieces of evidence captured on camera, the infamous “flying brick” footage from the original Ghost Adventures documentary is one of my favorites. Captured by Nick Groff inside the historical and haunted Goldfield Hotel, the cast’s reaction alone is pretty solid evidence that what transpires was both completely unexpected and utterly terrifying. It still gives me chills to this day.

Finding Bigfoot: “The Howler”

I realize that lumping Bigfoot into the realm of the paranormal might upset the “flesh and blood” crowd a little (you guys will come around eventually), but when it comes to evidence of the unexplained, no list is complete without a capture from Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot, television’s most popular Sasquatch search party.

If you’ve ever watched Finding Bigfoot you’ll know that it takes a lot to silence the mercurial Matt Moneymaker, but it was a Bigfoot himself who managed to do just that during an investigation into an unnamed Georgia forest back in 2011. Not only does the team capture an undeniably-intriguing piece of footage on the thermal camera, what follows the heat signature is what really takes the cake. For anyone who has been lucky enough to hear a Bigfoot howl in the wild, the deep guttural sound is enough to make every hair on the back of your neck stand up.

I could easily add to this list all day, but I’d much rather you tell us which shows you love, and what clips have left you convinced that the cast has had a genuine brush with the paranormal. Did I miss a compelling piece of evidence from your favorite series?
