Do you want to live in a UFO? Now you can!

dada_futuroWho doesn’t want to live in a UFO? Now you can live out your dream for the low, low price of $30,000 USD.

These marvels are the brainchild of Finnish artist and architect, Matti Suuronen. His design embodies the unbridled optimism of the final frontier, combining the convenience of prefabricated materials with Finnish ingenuity. Matti’s original vision envisioned these buildings as portable ski lodges, taking full advantage of its integrated, electrical heating system making for a cozy retreat in less than thirty minutes.

futuro_layoutSadly, the design was met with outright hostility. One camp decried the homes for being unnatural, despite the fact they’re UFOs. How many sighted flying saucers can successfully integrate with the landscape, sans a Klingon cloaking device? These bad boys are meant to be seen. Other people couldn’t help jealously vandalizing these structures like a Wikipedia page, while zoning boards said the Futuros weren’t up to snuff on local building codes, and many banks declined to finance mavericks hoping to live Betty and Barney Hill’s dream.

Skyrocketing oil prices in the early seventies were the final nail in the Futuro’s coffin. Fewer than 100 of these babies were produced in the ’60s and ’70s, and about fifty survive to this day. For just a cool thirty g’s, this baby’s a steal. The ultimate hipster homestead for the probing set.
