Plague of Locusts Descends Upon Egypt Just in Time for Passover

swarms of locusts plague egypt“So Moses stretched out his staff over Egypt, and the Lord made an east wind blow across the land all that day and all that night. By morning the wind had brought the locusts.” – Exodus 10:13

Talk about timing. Just days before Passover, Egypt has been hit by a locust swarm of Biblical proportions. The creatures have descended upon the Giza region, some 15 miles outside of Cairo, and brought with them massive damage to the farming community. Officials estimate that some 30 million of the little beasts have swooped in to wreak havoc on the land. So many, in fact, that they’ve called in the army to deal with them.

“Egyptian armed forces and border guards are attempting to fight the swarm with all means at their disposal,” Egyptian Agriculture Minister Dr. Salah Abd Al Mamon told Arutz Sheva 7 News. He went on to warn locals against the burning of tires, an old remedy of keeping the bugs from swarming a property, saying that the practice “does not chase away the locusts, but only causes damage and could ignite large-scale fires that would cost in lives.”

Some folks are already seeing this as a sign of the end times, referencing the plague of locusts in the book of Revelations. As stated by a commenter by the name of “Grizz” in Anchorage, Alaska:

As in the days of Moses bringing the Jews from bondage in Egypt and the God of Israel bringing the plagues upon them, so has it begun again as a warning to the world. The end of man’s time draws near. The harvest shall soon begin as God shall gather the grapes to the wine press to meter his judgement on mankind to that great and terrible day fore told of the war in the valley of Meggido that will take seven years to bury the dead.

Mamon, on the other hand, isn’t seeing gloom and doom in the future. He points out the weather forecast showing strong winds which he hopes will blow the locusts out into the Red Sea. Even if that doesn’t work, there news isn’t all bad. Locust are considered a kosher food, meaning that many might be chowing down on the abundant pests. Seems a fitting revenge.

Might be a good time to pray for a rain of frogs.
