Chaos Erupts After Unexplained “Mystery Fumes” Send Over 50 to Hospital

mysteryfumes2Residents and postal workers in Kingston, Jamaica were sent into a wild panic on Thursday night as they fled “mystery fumes” that knocked dozens of people unconscious and sent even more to the hospital.

Those in the vicinity of the Central Sorting Office on South Camp Road first knew something was awry on Thursday morning when multiple individuals began finding it hard to breathe. By that evening, full scale chaos had erupted as medical professionals struggled to evacuate the sick and the unconscious out of the area.

“The report that we received is that at about 10:00 am workers raised an alarm after several of their colleagues started to complain that they were having difficulty breathing,” Post Master General Michael Gentles told The Jamaica Observer.

According to police, it took ambulance drivers over six trips just to get all of the sick to the hospital. Those who were still conscious told paramedics that they were suffering from dizziness and respiratory problems.

Although normal activities have resumed in the schools surrounding the Sorting Office, access to the building remains extremely limited, as officials have made little progress in solving the mystery.

“I have spoken to the post master general and I have spoken to my team on the ground but they have not been able to ascertain the source of the fumes,” said Peter Knight, chief executive officer of NEPA.

A month ago, similar incidents occurred in Pennsylvania and Oklahoma, shutting down an entire Wal-Mart and closing a middle school respectively. Interestingly enough, these events all share a few common traits: they occurred in heavily trafficked areas, caused symptoms of “dizziness” and respiratory issues, caused no casualties, and each of them remains unsolved. Could these bizarre, unsolved cases of “mystery fumes” be somehow related to one another?

So what do you think? Could these events be related to the testing of some new non-lethal weapon? Or are they just a bunch of gas leaks that got way too much attention?
